the VRCCC "Coolest of the Year" Gallery
Here is the collected gathering of this year's nominees for the most coveted award. Coolest in the Shadows (a.k.a "CITS") is a monthly award handed out by the staff to various members, but the annual award is the most coveted and is decided by the members via a poll which is conducted at the end of the year.

Shadow Shack & VLXXX >>> Tied for 2nd Place
Runner up for Coolest of the Year was a split decision between a pair of red draggers. 40% of the votes were evenly divided between Shadow Shack's "VLX Max" (top) and VLXXX's radical red ride (bottom). Shack's 92 VLX sports a hypercharger and a set of HardKrome Kickers, along with a 3" drop out back and 4" over forks set into +5 trees. A drag bar with some billet mirrors rounds out the control end, and Shack took a cut-off wheel to the tail section of the frame and abbreviated both fenders as well. A side mount plate/tail light resides on the swingarm, and matching paint was applied to the grill and fork lowers. Meanwhile VLXXX shelved both fenders from his late model beast and also lopped off the tail section of the frame. New mufflers were mated to wrapped headpipes and a new air cleaner resides where the stock airbox once was. A solid strut replaces the rear shock and the forks were replaced with longer units as well. Clip-on sportbike bars replace the control end up front, and a generous amount of copper appointments can be found all over.

<<< smartygre1
This bad black bagger nailed 9% of the votes for third place. The bike is something of an enigma...at first glance it might be mistaken as a 750 ACE or Aero but it's actually a VLX sporting Aero fenders. A windshield, floorboards, and saddlebags round out the touring end while a studded seat and fender bib that match the luggage makes for comfort and style.

JD (jdkane2) >>>
The fourth place contender, at 6% of the voting, is another eye-teaser. A 750 Spirit tank was swapped onto the VLX frame to extend the riding range. A studded seat echoes the saddlebags for good looks and versatility, and a menacing skull replaces the OEM carburetor cover.

<<< BRKT-MAN (OntarioRider)
Netting 5% of the votes, 5th place goes to a low-dough chopper owned by one of our Canadian members. Pete fabed most of waht you see here onto the stock 02 bike, including the triple trees, fork brace, and rear fender/sissy bar. A second OEM headlight resides ont he upper tree and a set of old school Z-bars take control of the hypercharged mill which growls through a set of V&H Cruzers.
|
VLXXX, entry #2 >>>
6th place goes to VLXXX with his second entry, grabbing up 3% of the votes. 25.6" wasn't low enough so once again, the OEM shock gets shelved and is replaced with a solid hardtail strut. The pillion joins the shock for shelf duty, making this another solo ride. No doubt this black bike serves VLXXX on the rainy days, as it still sports full fenders...

<<< Shadow Shack, entry #2
Sixth place, like second place, was a tie netting another 3% of the popular vote. And just like second place, sixth is shared by the same two people. Maybe if they'd only submit one bike each second place might not be a tie...but regardless of theory Shack's second entry is a 95 chopper sporting a Seeger front end with 10" ove forks and a 10" medium ape hanger bar with Maltese Cross mirrors flying high. Jardine controls and rear pegs keep the feet off the ground and a backrest keeps Mrs. Shack off the ground under acceleration. OEM front directionals with blue dot embossed red lenses were swapped in for the original rear set, tripling up as running lights, brake lights, and of course turn signals. A Highway Hawk "Tech Glide" tail light compliments the rear directionals, and restrained detailing was applied to the bodywork.

kingfish (wfriedhoff) >>>
7th place is yet another tie, this one fetching 2% of the votes. Newer member Kingfish joined the forum earlier this year and after netting one of the monthly CITS awards decided to throw his hat into the ring for the annual title. This sharp ride has some good custom appointments, starting with the immediately noticeable medium ape hangers with flying fringed lever covers. The pillion was shelved for solo duty and the license plate was relocated to the swingarm to clean up the tail.

<<< Rose (ACEY57)
Despite multiple claims at the forum concerning which is the fastest color, red was definitely the dominant color for CITS. Rose's red ride, the fifth of five fellow coolest crimson contenders, shares 7th with 2% of the voting. This bike has everything you'll ever need for a daily driver: a windshield, saddlebags, backrest w/rear rack, a set of freeway bars, and a Mustang seat for miles of endless comfort.
